Vallarta Life: New Bike Tour

Second Annual Puerto Vallarta Tourist Bike Tour

Get your tires checked and fill your water bottle! Cycling in Puerto Vallarta has become so popular over the past few years; we now have an annual tour, of which the second one will occur at the end of this month of March 2019. There are three categories, so something for everyone. On March 30th, starting at Avenida Francisco Medina Ascencio at the Marina Vallarta, you’ll be able to join a 21K, 72K or 100K routes. Hydrating and mechanical assistance points will be places throughout the courses. The organizers are not limiting bicycle types; track and mountain bikes are welcome and encouraged to partake.

The Green Route, which is planned for families, children, amateurs and those who prefer shorter rides will travel through the central lanes of Av. Fco Medina Ascencio, departing from Marina Vallarta with a stop at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Stadium for hydration. This group will continue on to the Crucero de Las Juntas, with a return to Marina Vallarta. The Green Route trip is estimated to take approximately 2 ½ hours and starts at 7 am, in the nice fresh morning. The Green Route is 21 kilometers.

The Red Route, at 100 kilometers, is a bit tougher and meant for advanced cyclists. Riders will be sharing the road with traffic on this route, so there will be strict safety instructions. More inexperienced enthusiasts will need to take special precautions. The Red Route will travel north to Nuevo Vallarta and cover the areas of Bucerias, Cruz de Huanacaxtle and hit the return point in Punta de Mita. There will be a hydration station in Punta de Mita, mechanical support, snacks and an avid cheering section. The return trip will take the Nahui Road to travel on to Destiladeras and a return at Manzanilla. The return will take this route through Flamingos and gather together at El Tigre in groups of thirty to head back south to the finish point at Marina Vallarta. The estimated time for the Red Route is five hours and start time is 7 am.

The Black Route is also suitable for the more amateur aficionado and is 72 kilometers, so get ready for a longer ride. It starts just like the Green Route and takes riders along Highway 200, passing through Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerias, Cruz de Huanacaxtle, with the return at Manzanilla, like the Red Route. Here will be a main hydration station, snacks and mechanics on hand. This group will also be returning in thirty rider sets, for security purposes. The Black Route finishes at Marina Vallarta, is approximately 3 ½ hours and start time is 7 am.
