It’s that most wonderful time of year in Puerto Vallarta. The rains have begun and the tropical weather starts to kick in. It’s Mango Season! The warm weather really makes me want to enjoy more fresh fruits and vegetables. One of my favorite things to do here in PV is to eat local, fresh, and seasonal produce. We are so lucky to live in a place that year round has incredible fruits and vegetables to choose from. Locally, there are hundreds of mango plantations that provide our neighborhood veggie markets with a variety of mangos. Not to mention the hundreds, if not thousands, of wild mango trees that grow throughout our beautiful city.
There are two main types of mangos here in Vallarta. The smaller yellow ones which are called Ataulfo. Or the bigger, red/green/purple mangos. They are both delicious, but I personally prefer the yellow ones! Mango Season means lots of natural Vitamin C that helps keep your immune system strong and combined with the humidity, provides you with beautiful, glowing skin. If you’re looking to try before you buy, I recommend hanging out on the beach until a mango vendor comes along. They carve up the fruit in the most unique way and will even add lime juice, salt, and chile powder! Viva!
